Did you know that there are 14 different types of cracks and chips that can occur on your windshield? That’s right, fourteen! Who knew that windshield damage could be so complicated?
To help you better be able to identify the type of chip or crack on your windshield, we’ve put together a list of the most common types:
Bull’s Eye: This one looks exactly like you would imagine. A chunk of glass missing from the windshield with rings of cracks extending from it.
Half Moon: This type of crack is very similar to the Bull’s Eye, but the damage is not completely circular.
Star Break: This type of crack is characterized by an impact spot with small lines extending from it, giving it a star-like appearance.
Floater Crack: These are cracks that occur away from the edges, in the middle of your windshield.
Edge Crack: These are cracks that occur on or near the edge of your windshield.
Chip: This type of damage is characterized by a chunk missing from the glass without any surrounding cracks.
Stone Break: This type of damage occurs when you don’t repair a chip. Over time, the chip expands into a crack that spreads across the windshield from the chip.
Armed with this cheat-sheet of different chips and cracks, you’ll better be able to identify the damage on your windshield.
